Your Good News Doula Team

Jessica Johnson & Joanna Polley

We are eager to support you and your family through pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum!

After attending the same doula training through DONA International and having fun getting to know each other, we realized we had a common goal. We both wanted to provide expecting families with the confidence that they would have a trusted doula always available to them while not neglecting the needs of our own families. After chatting more, we decided that we would form a doula partnership! This means that when you book with us, you automatically get two doulas for one flat rate. Whether Joanna or Jess joins you at your birth, you can feel at peace knowing that whoever is at your birth will provide you with a similar style of care. Our doula care is evidence-based, holistic, and natural, with a big helping of fun thrown in!

Birth can take some crazy twists and turns, and we are here to help you navigate the ride and find joy in the process!

Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Jessica Johnson

About Jessica
I have been happily married to my best friend for 21 years. We are blessed with six fabulous kids, along a goofy & lovable chocolate labrador! Our family lives in the South Metro across the street from a beautiful lake. When I am not serving mamas as a doula, I am busy homeschooling my kids, spending time outdoors, dancing, and collecting books.

Jessica’s Style
You will usually find me with a smile on my face, as I love to laugh and encourage others. I am a creative and flexible doula who adapts to each mama and situation, learning what type of support helps you best throughout your birth journey. Whether you welcome a little one at home, a birth center, or a hospital, I am ready to be at your side! My personal journey with giving birth includes delivering some of my babies with midwives in birth centers and others with OBGYNs in hospital settings. After spending time in the NICU after the birth of our third child, I gained a desire to help moms find peace with any unexpected and sometimes difficult parts of their birth story. No two births are the same, and I am here to help you experience a birth you can cherish forever! Whether your birth is precisely what you imagined or if it has twists or turns along the way - I believe that, as mamas, we can find joy and express gratitude for the journey we find ourselves on.

Professional Experience
My professional experience has always emphasized serving. In the education world, I have been a: consultant, speaker, homeschool cooperative director, and teacher of students from pre-K through college, including those with disabilities. Since we were first married, my husband and I have served as pastors in Christian ministry. As a family, we love serving on Global Teams and through local outreach ministry. I speak Spanish and have been honored to support mamas from all walks of life, including refugees and teens in crisis pregnancy. I also serve clients with Everyday Miracles, a non-profit organization that aims to improve birth outcomes and reduce health disparities for expecting mamas through evidence-based education and compassionate and culturally aware support in a non-judgmental, caring community.

Joanna Polley

About Joanna
Hi there! My name is Joanna, and I have been married to my wonderful husband for 10 years. We are blessed with three spunky and brilliant little children on earth and two babies in heaven. Our family lives in 105 year old home in South Minneapolis. When I’m not supporting mamas in birth, I’m trying out new Pinterest activities with my kids, researching new recipes to try for dinner, reading one of the many books piled on my nightstand, or starting a new home improvement project.

Joanna’s Style
Through my own birth experiences and my experience serving women in their births, I am fascinated by birth and I have learned that no two births are alike. Pregnancy after loss is near and dear to my heart and I have learned that no matter your story having support is so wonderful for both you and your partner. When I am supporting you in childbirth, I work to create a peaceful environment while also ensuring that your needs and wants are always met. I work to serve you in every way I can to help you feel connected with your partner so that the both of you can look back on the birth of your baby as a beautiful core memory. Birth is unpredictable, and no matter what happens, I will help you maintain a hopeful outlook so that you can labor in the way that you want.

Professional Experience
I have been in full time Christian ministry for over 10 years, the first years in college ministry at the University of Minnesota as well as event coordination and administration support. The last six years have been in formal church ministry, as a speaker, a children’s ministry coordinator, and supporting my husband in his full time pastoral work. My hearts desire is to care for, support and serve those around me. I feel so grateful to have this calling of serving women and their families in the intimate space of birth as they welcome new life into the world. I look forward to helping you create a beautiful experience that you will treasure forever!
